Mance Lipscomb

Mance Lipscomb (1895–1976) was an American blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter, celebrated as a master of Texas country blues. Born in Navasota, Texas, Lipscomb spent much of his life as a sharecropper and played music locally before being "discovered" during the 1960s folk and blues revival. Known for his gentle voice, intricate fingerpicking, and extensive repertoire, Lipscomb performed a mix of blues, ragtime, folk, and spirituals. His songs, such as "Sugar Babe" and "Texas Blues," showcased his storytelling and versatility. Revered for his humility and authenticity, Lipscomb became a vital figure in preserving the traditions of rural American blues.
