Pete Seeger was an influential American folk singer, songwriter, and social activist who played a central role in the folk music revival of the 20th century. Born in New York City in 1919, he helped popularize traditional and protest songs, wrote or adapted enduring anthems such as “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” and “Turn! Turn! Turn!,” and used his music to support civil rights, peace, labor rights, and environmental causes. A pioneer in using song for social change, Seeger remained a beloved figure in American music until his death in 2014 at the age of 94.
